Download Pearson VUE's Texas candidate handbook and schedule the exam. TDI requires a passing exam before you apply; applying first means reapplying and paying again. - 03

Your fingerprint service code and instructions come from TDI's online initial application and fingerprint portal. - 04
Get fingerprinted with IdentoGO
Most applicants complete an IdentoGO background check and send TDI the receipt showing prints went to the Texas Department of Public Safety. - 05

Separate Life agent license

One-time temporary license
A single 180-day temporary general lines license is available with a sponsor's appointment certification and at least 40 hours of training from the appointing company. It cannot be renewed.

What license do I need to sell final expense insurance in Texas?

Do I need fingerprints?
Most applicants do. You get a service code through TDI's portal and are fingerprinted by IdentoGO. Some people can request an exemption under the Texas Administrative Code.
What does it cost?
TDI lists a $50 application fee and a $50 renewal fee. Exam and fingerprint fees are charged by Pearson VUE and IdentoGO.
What CE does Texas require?
24 hours every two years, including 3 hours of ethics and at least 12 classroom or classroom-equivalent hours.
Am I licensed once I apply?
No. Submission is not approval. TDI decides whether to issue the license.
Can I get a Texas non-resident license?
Yes, subject to TDI's rules. Non-residents with a license in good standing in a reciprocal state don't need to take the exam.
