Resident licensing path

Getting a Florida Life license.

    Confirm eligibility

DFS requires applicants to be at least 18, a bona fide Florida resident, a U.S. citizen or legal alien with work authorization, and not hold a resident license in another state.
  2. 02

    Complete the prelicensing course

2-14: a 30-hour life and variable contracts course. 2-15: a 60-hour life and health course including variable annuities. Either must be completed within four years of applying. Designation and degree alternatives are listed by DFS.
  3. 03

    Apply online

Answer the application questions and pay DFS's fees. Course providers send proof of completion to DFS within 21 days.
  4. 04

    Get fingerprinted

Fingerprints are required. Fingerprinting fees are paid directly to the vendor.
  5. 05

Take the state exam when authorized

DFS sends an exam authorization to your MyProfile account. Follow its instructions to schedule.
  6. 06

    Get appointed

The license requires an appointment to be valid (s. 626.112(4), F.S.).
